Rush in, then Recede...

Rush in, then Recede

“You give and take away.”
I heard Job say as he was
Cutting loses like classes
In the school of hard knocks.

“People come and people go.”
I wish they didn’t, but they do
As dreams of duets end in solos
Yet again, there goes another friend.

“You win some, you lose some.”
This bolstering word meant to lift
Hangs heavy like a token trope
When the loss is winner take all.

“Our loves rush in, then recede,”
I heard a bloke once say
Like ocean waves they play with us,
And we bob up and down in their currents…

Treading water we’re wise to wonder,
“Am I swimming or drowning?”
