Impressions and Inklings...

-       Leadership is largely anticipation.  It is seeing what’s coming before it’s come and making preparation for it in advance with your team.
-       Jesus taught in the temple when he was 12 and knew the highest form of teaching: #1 Sitting among, #2 Listening, #3 Asking, #4 Understanding, #5 Answering.  This is the best form of teaching, hands down.
-       I’m convinced that learning how to laugh is 4x more important than learning how to lead.  Leadership without laughter turns a workplace into a concentration camp.  We need less concentration and more celebration in our offices.
-       It’s important to not say “no” for people in your own mind, make the ask and let them say “no” for themselves.  It’s these self-protective measures that cost the world so dearly.  It’s incalculable what hasn’t been done because someone talked themselves out of something in their heads that actually would have worked or happened if they would have taken the risk to just open their mouth and go for it.
-       It is a huge mistake to form an approach with adults that is much different than you would with children.  They desire and demand the same creativity, games & fun, interaction, surprise, storytelling, variety, stations of learning, styles of teaching, attention-getting illustrations, hands-on activities, role-playing, colorful environments, human connection, and genuine love.  If we would heed this…we would see more life around us.  We grossly underestimate how much fun adults want to have in places where they are used to being bored.
-       Eye-contact is the most powerful tool of connection.  To listen with your eyes and to speak with your eyes is a dying art in modern conversation and communication.  When you learn the discipline of focusing in on people while they are talking or while you are talking, it’s amazing what you witness and the dynamic that occurs between human beings.

Just a few thoughts this morning that I’ve been contemplating recently that I wanted to jot down.  Tootles.
