A prayer before church...

"God, I pray for nothing less that an all out visitation from your Holy Spirit this weekend to our church.  We think about the importance of us gathering together, but if you don't accompany us it's empty words and partial presence.  Like the Psalmist says, 'Unless the Lord builds the house the laborers labor in vain.'  Hard words to hear, God, but so true.  'Unless the Lord shows up at our service, the gatherers gather in vain.'

Lord, may we be mindful of this reality.  We need you, we want you, we adore you, we fear you.  And we beg you, the beggars we are, to look upon us with grace and hear our humble request for your presence.  Be patient with us, Lord.  Stay faithful to us even we are faithless.  Don't pass us by, Jesus, we need your revival.

We are desperate for your kindness that leads us to repentance.  Your conviction that leads us to change.  Your truth that calls us unto obedience.  Keep pursuing us with passion, Oh great Lover of our Souls.  Let the fellowship we share bind your broken and beautiful body together in unity so that Your Face is seen clearly.

Let our songs rise like incense to you, drawing you near to us as we draw near to you.  Let your Word be spoken with power and received with hunger.  And above all, may we leave this weekend different than we came...shining like stars in the universe. Please come in power and may salvation spring up from the ground as you split the heavens and come down.  We are expectant, Lord.  We wait eagerly for you.  All for your glory, God.  In Jesus name, Amen."
